Mumbai News | Kunal Kamra vs Shiv Sena Controversy LIVE Updates: In the latest developments amid the ongoing controversy, BMC officials begin demolition of unauthorised structures at Mumbai studio Habitat Comedy Club where Kamra shot his show which had the ‘traitor’ jibe aimed at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Meanwhile, Minister Pratap Sarnaik confirmed that the comedian, who faces an FIR at Khar police station, is currently in Pondicherry. The police also arrested Shiv Sena functionary Rahul Kanal along with 11 others for vandalising the venue at the Mumbai hotel. The incident occurred after Kamra’s performance at the studio, where he mocked Shinde and referred to him as a “gaddar” (traitor).
What has happened so far? Following the incident, the Mumbai police filed an FIR against Kamra for his comments, and Home Minister Yogesh Kadam confirmed that authorities are actively working to trace him in connection with the incident. On Sunday evening, Shiv Sena workers, angered by Kamra’s remarks, ransacked the venue and the hotel where the show was recorded. In response to the controversy, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated, “Everyone has a right to perform stand-up comedy. But freedom should not be unrestrained behaviour. Kamra should apologise for his behaviour. The insult of leaders cannot be tolerated. Action will be taken against him as per the law.”
What Kunal Kamra said? In the stand-up comedy show, Kamra’s performance featured a parody song, set to the tune of Dil To Pagal Hai, with a reference to Shinde’s 2022 defection from the undivided Shiv Sena. His use of the term “gaddar” triggered sharp criticism from Shiv Sena leaders with MP Naresh Mhaske saying: “You will be forced to flee India.” After the ransacking incident, Kamra, who has remained largely silent, shared a picture of himself holding a copy of the Indian Constitution with the caption: “The only way forward.”
